WORK DAY MAKEUP

Working a full time job often means I don't have as long as I would like to do my makeup in the morning, because of this I have developed myself a little routine to help ensure my makeup looks good enough to leave the house but I'm not late for work. Being a makeup lover means I don't think i'll ever be able to do a 'simple' makeup look and my work day look still includes a shocking 12 products!

Following my skincare routine I'll a apply a primer to ensure my makeup is in place all day. My favourite at the moment is the Boots Time Delay Flawless Primer (£10.99), its silicon based but not greasy and helps keep the shine at bay throughout the day. The creamy gel like formula smooths out all of my imperfections and allows for a smooth foundation application. That leads onto the next step and for my work day I like my foundation to look like its there but not look heavy on my skin, this is were the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light  (£31.00) comes in. This foundation is the little sister of the cult Double Wear but in a lighter formula with more of a medium coverage, it is still creamy like the original but not as heavy or thick when applied. It also stays in place all day and still looks flawless after a 8 hour working day.

One thing I have to make sure is concealed everyday is my pesky dark circles and to do that I love the combination of Benefit Erase Paste (£23.00) and Maybelline Eye Eraser (£7.99). The erase paste is peach based and thick and creamy so I apply that first to minimise the darkness. I then add the eye eraser to bright under my eyes, t-zone/chin and any blemishes I may have. All of this is blended in with a damp beauty blender to create a flawless finish, and then its onto the setting powder. I'm currently loving the RCMA No Colour Powder (£10.50), i'll apply this under my eyes using a sponge and let it set for a few minutes and then brushing away the excess. I love it because it ensure my concealer doesn't crease and mattifies my skin but doesn't add any unnecessary colour.

For contouring/adding warmth to my skin I keep it simple with theBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer (£17.50). The matte bronzer is a neutral bronze shade that is perfect for contouring and adding definition to my skin, it has the perfect amount of pigmentation. Next is my favourite part and that is highlighter and just because I'm heading out to work for the day doesn't mean I can't have a lovely bit of shimmer. For a simple look I got for MAC Soft & Gentle (£24.50), this baked powder is a subtle peachy bronze that adds warmth to the skin without looking like too much. I usually do my blush last but for this post i'll mention it here, its another MAC fave and its their Powder Blush in Lovecloud (£19.50), it's a bright pop of barbie pink but just adds a subtle flush to my cheek.

The last parts of my makeup routine is all about brows and eyes. I tend to do my brows the same whatever I'm doing as its the shape I now like and can do quickly and easily, my favourite product is the ABH DipBrow Pomade (£15.00), the creamy formula glides easily onto my brows shaping them and filling them in. Once I have shaped and defined my brows I like to keep them in place all day and the Benefit Ready Set Brow! (£20.00), its a clear gel that brushes onto brows and dries ensuring my brows wont smudge.

Most work days I will wear a simple eyeshadow look, although if I'm running late I will skip this step. I usually reach for a palette on my dressing table instead of rooting through my collection and this MAC Amber x9 palette (£25.00) is small enough to keep handy but has the perfect selection of neutral shades. I find MAC eyeshadows to be pigmented but quite chalky (although I have tried worse). For a work day I will normally for a subtle shaded crease and then add a lighter matte or shimmer on the lids. The final part of my routine is mascara and probably one of the most important as I rarely leave the house without it. I'm currently loving the Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes (£25.00), it lengthens and volumizes my lashes with its elastic formula, which also means they stay curled all day. the fluffy brush ensures all lashes are coated straight away.

What are your work day makeup staples?

  1. I've been wearing the original Double Wear recently for work as it's one of the few foundations that lasts all day. I'd love to try the light version. x
