HIGHLIGHT | CREAM VS. POWDER

My makeup look wouldn't be complete without that perfect slick of highlighter across my cheeks, it really finishes of my look and leaves me glowing all day. Having a golden shimmer across your cheek bones can instantly lift a girls confidence. My collection includes a mix between powder and cream and different pigmentations and here are just a few...

This ABH illuminator is so unlike any of my other highlighters but admittedly its actually a little to dark for me as a highlighter so I use it as more of a bronzer. Peach Nectar is more of a copper shade and would definitely be a highlight for those with darker skin tones. I am still obsessed with the pattern in the pan and definitely looking to add more of the shades to my collection.

Like the ABH powder highlight this is much more of a bronzer with that glow rather than a highlighter. This cream based product is great for wearing either under or on top of foundation or on its own for a bronzey glow. This was actually my favourite product to use whilst in Thailand to enhance the tan I developed.

MAC Strobe Cream | £10.00

This liquid highlighter is something i'd wear as an all over base to illuminate from within rather than adding lots of shimmer. The cream based product is also great as it softs and moisturises your skin. If i'm ever having a simple makeup day i'll wear this under my makeup for glowy skin.

BECCA x Jaclyn Hill Shimmer Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop | £30.00 | post

This blogger favourite has completely upped my makeup game recently and I'm so obsessed. The velvety champagne highlighter is packed full of shimmer that really enhances your cheeks and you only need the tiniest amount on your brush. I heard recently that this is no longer limited edition so for all of your that don't have it yet go and get it!

Collection Speedy Highlighter | £3.99

This is another for those subtle makeup days as its not as intense as other highlighter I have. I actually picked this up as something I could carry round with me as the tube is quite compact and easy to slip into your handbag. Once you have applied the stick to your cheeks it does need blending with a brush as it can leave you with harsh lines.

NARS Copacabana Illuminator | £23.00 | post

Say hello to the complete opposite of MAC's strobe cream, this is packed with shimmer and adds some real sparkle to your face. Although from the swatch it doesn't look quite as shimmery once its on your skin its really amazing. I also like applying this my collar bone and shins for a night out for extra definition.

TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer | £17.50 | post

Another blogger favourite and favourite of mine, the gorgeous silvery champagne shade really defines your face and helps catch the light in all the right places. It has a similar texture to champagne pop and the tiniest amount adds so much shimmer to your face. I'm eager to try some of the other highlighters from TheBalm as I'm so obsessed with this one!

When it comes to powder or cream based highlighter I tend to lean more towards powder as I find it blends much easier on my skin and it can be built up for a more intense shimmer. I'll use liquids one like the strobe cream as an illuminating base under my foundation and then Copacabana is perfect for an even more intense shimmer on a night out.

What are some of your highlight choices?

  2. It's so interesting that you say you prefer powder highlighters - I've always gone for liquid ones. I'm keen to try the ABH one as I haven't tried any of their products yet!

  3. You have some of my favourites here! I love a gold highlight like the Mary Lou and Champagne Pop :) I've naturally gravitated towards powder formulas but my skin is really dry right now so I appreciate the dewier look of a cream or liquid. At the moment my favourites are the No7 Bronzing Highlighter and Topshop Glow Pot in Gleam xx

  4. I much prefer cream highlighters - my fave is probably the benefit high beam. However everyone always talks about the becca highlighters so I will have to try those out! :)

  7. The NARS and Collection ones are two of my faves too (though for very different looks as you said!) I also love the Seventeen Wow! Highlighter in the non-tan version, that's gorgeous on or mixed with foundation :)
